The marula tree is one of Africa’s most cherished botanicals. Its fragrant, vitamin-rich fruit is used to make traditional drinks, jams, and the famous marula liqueur, while the oil from its kernels is valued locally for cooking, skincare, and traditional medicine. For many communities, the marula is a cultural gathering point — a place to share harvests, hold celebrations, and use its botanicals in daily life. Wildlife depends on it just as strongly. Elephants, baboons, monkeys, and antelope all feed on the fallen fruit, spreading seeds and enriching the soil around the trees. The marula stands at the centre of both cultural and natural life in the bush — a true provider for people and animals alike.
