This pen-and-ink artwork captures the gentle charm of the bush baby — also known as a galago, or nagapie in Afrikaans, meaning “little night baby.” These shy, nocturnal primates are tiny but incredibly agile, using their long tails and powerful hind legs to spring several metres between branches. Found in woodlands, thickets, and riverine forests, they spend their days tucked away in tree hollows and their nights leaping through the canopy. Though they forage alone, bush babies are social and return to shared sleeping sites, communicating through soft calls and grooming. Habitat loss from deforestation and human expansion increasingly threatens these delicate creatures, making their survival tied to the protection of Africa’s remaining wild forests.
